Highlights
Easter Special:
Students enjoyed participating in the Easter programme
organized by Faye Angelo. It was a solemn but joyous
time for all, as staff and students reflected on the
events before Jesus¢®? death, His crucifixion and resurrection.
What was significant were the candles that were lined
up to form a cross. The last hymn that was sung called
¢®¡ÆHe arose¢®¡¾ emphasized the triumphant event that made
it possible for us to serve a living Saviour.
Bead Making:
A dozen students had a go at bead-making, including
six boys. At the end of the 90 minute session, a range
of necklaces, bracelets and ear-rings were displayed.
Community Outreach:
On 29th June, enthusiastic students braved the rain
at Manukau Square having a sausage sizzle, distributing
flyers and staging concert items.
Rotorua Trip:
34 students had a fantastic time at Lakeview
Bible Camp with Shane as tour leader, Joanne as chef
and Sylvia as devotions leader. Joanne Forde reports:
¢®¡ÆAaaargh!¢®¡¾ shrieked the students as they launched
in space for the first time in their lives ? at the
Taupo Bungy Jump. Launch would have to be a key word
as the students i. tasted new food like porridge and
chilli concarne with zest and enthusiasm) ii. took photos
of themselves with gigantic, woolly, long horned sheep
at the sheep show and iii. hurtled down the luge. The
weather was mostly great, the scenery at the Lake Bible
Camp spectacular and the souvenir shopping in Rotorua
a big success. Thanks to Shane for the organization
of it all. One of the highlights would have to be the
student talent show ? an incredible array of talent
was displayed accompanied by heaps of laughter. These
trips are spiritually, relationally and experientially
an unforgettable moment in time.
¢®¡ÆThe
best experience here is the Rotorua trip and the bungy
jumping. It¢®?s been a great time and I¢®?ll never forget
it. If I have time later, I want to return to New
Zealand.¢®¡¾ Sharon Eun Sil OH
First
Aid for Staff : conducted by Johanna Bissett
The teachers were taught basic first aid and CPR in
their last teacher training session. Common problems
like asthma, cut fingers and blood noses were discussed
so teachers can be more confident with the health
issues of the students.

and Argentina. From early July to November, more than 50 students have
graduated.
FLASH BACK ON Friday Fun
Indoor fun: On 11th August, three workshops
were organised for students and staff. There was aerobics where Joanne led us
for a good half hour; then Sylvia made sure we ate the right foods; Faye taught
us to eat healthily and taught everyone to prepare strips of carrot and celery
and an assortment of fruits to go with the dips. We all ended up utterly
exhausted and amused.
Some outdoor highlights: A group of
students enjoyed themselves at Cornwall Park on 1st September. The picnic and
the walk up the volcanic mountain were pleasant and relaxing experiences. All
agreed that it was a good end to the hard week of study.
47 students and seven teachers headed for Waiwera hotpools
on 8th September. Some students had a good soak in the warm water and a
leisurely stroll on the beach.
Staff and students participated eagerly in the Operation
Christmas Child which was a project of Samaritan¡¯s Purse. It was a privilege for
the school to pack and send 20 shoe boxes of gifts to needy children in Fiji and
the Solomon Islands.
Three evangelistic outreaches were planned for this year.
The second outreach on 28th September included well-rehearsed items from
students as well as staff members. Victor Burrows gave a wake-up call and
challenge to make a decision for Jesus and to have a change of lifestyle. A free
sausage sizzle, fruit and drinks drew in the crowd at the Manukau Mall. The
forth-coming Christmas rally on 15th December is being planned.
The highlight of the year was THE ROTORUA TRIP from 18th to
20th October. 33 students and three teachers toured around Taupo and Rotorua for
3 days, enjoying the spectacular scenery of this part of the North Island – an
experience to be treasured and remembered. The gondola and luge experience were
enjoyed by all. The bungy jump, attempted by 15, was perhaps the highlight of
the trip. At the Lakeview Campsite, Joanne made sure spiritual food was not
neglected, while Anna took care of the meals. Dennis, Wendy, Hannah, Joey and
Chris proved themselves to be capable student leaders. All the students are to
be commended for cheerfully doing their duties in the kitchen and in the final
cleanup of the camp. The students all enjoyed each others company, creating a
happy atmosphere in the bus and off it! Even the bus driver was
blessed!
Auckland Edinburgh College is an action-packed institution,
well-attended by students of all ages and from different countries. The study of
English is balanced with activities where students and teachers can enjoy and
interact with each other.

Happy New Year!
The New Year is an exciting time to look at where
we are going, and who we want to be!
As staff we enjoyed a special lunch forum
together, focusing afresh on our commitment to excellence and how to be a school
with a real difference that will impact our students. We are committed to ¡°going
the second mile,¡± giving our students the extra help and guidance they need even
outside of class, to ensure they achieve their goals as quickly as possible.
At present this includes Private Tuition for
local community students, individualized self study programs with tutor
monitoring for our IELTS students, and pre IELTS candidates, special tutoring in
Literacy, and remedial homework for students with other special needs. Extra
writing classes are also provided free of charge, after school. We want to be
known as a school that really cares, and gets results. |

Great Results
In terms of results, we are happy to say that
many of our students from 2004 are now beginning the tertiary courses of their
choice, including a Masters program in Australia, and Diploma and Degree courses
at AucklandUniversity, AUT, MasseyUniversity, and MIT. In August two of our
IELTS students achieved Band 7 overall, one with a top band of 8. We also now
have two IELTS examiners on staff, to help students determine their readiness
for the test.
Study Tours
This month we are delighted to be hosting two
Study Tour programs from Korea, and a group from China.Congratulations are due
to Shane, our new Tour leader for the smooth way things are going. Young
students have been especially well behaved, and fitted in well to the life of
the school. We also want to thank Frank Zwitzer for the many hours he put in last
year coordinating our tours and laying a strong foundation for the
programme.Frank has handed over his tour responsibilities to be a full time
teacher in the main school, so we are still able to enjoy his enthusiasm and
humor!
Staff changes
We want to welcome Adie Pedersen to the position
of Student Welfare officer.Adie is an excellent teacher, currently taking one of
the academic classes, and brings with her lots of experience in educational
administration. She will also be responsible for Orientation so you can look
forward to meeting her soon after your arrival in New Zealand.
Dan Stradwick also joins our IELTS team, with a
wealth of experience, and his own flavor of life wisdom. We know you¡¯ll enjoy his
input.
Anna Hargreaves has officially retired, and will
be dearly missed by staff and students alike, but we are delighted to announce
that she is making herself regularly available for relief teaching and private
tutoring. Thanks so much Anna, for all you have done, and we are so glad you¡¯ll
still be around!
New Logo
Some of you may have noticed the small changes to
our logo which was inherited from the previous ownership. After two years as
¡°Auckland Edinburgh College¡±, we felt it was time to personalize and update our
front ¡°face¡±, better expressing who we are. We hope you like the changes. A
fresh face for a new year of growth! |
