Auckland Edinburgh College has a dedicated
homestay team which organises accommodation for students. Homestay is the
preferred accommodation option as it helps students to improve their English and
experience a true Kiwi lifestyle. We work hard to ensure that you are matched
with a family appropriate for your needs and requirements. Our goal is to
introduce you to a family who will become lifelong friends. Our homestay team
will offer regular consultation throughout your time with us to ensure that you
get the most out of your homestay and social experience whilst in New
Zealand.
Before your arrival, we will supply digital photographs of a
selection of accommodation options for you to choose from. |

family.

Your Room
You will have your own private room – go to the family room
or outside to play with the children.
Do not invite children into your room.
Do not hide away in your room, spend some
time talking and interacting with your host family.
Please keep your room
clean.
Do
not hang wet laundry in
your room. Ask where to dry it.
Wash personal clothing, such as
underwear, in the laundry sink only.
Ask where to put your rubbish.

For a happy house
New
Zealanders shower every day – up to 10 minutes only.
Wipe up water in the bathroom – keep the toilet area
clean.
Turn on the heater only when you
are cold. Never place anything on top of
the heater.
Keep telephone conversations
short to 10 minutes for consideration to others in the house.
Tell your friends not to phone after 9.00 or 9.30pm (check with your homestay family).
When making phone calls, please
remember not to talk too loudly, especially at night.
Always use a phone card for
international and toll calls.
Always lock your homestay house
when you are going out.
If you wish to use the internet,
please discuss with your homestay.
Ask if you would like to use your
own computer at home - you may need to have a separate line. Do not dye hair in
the bedroom. Ask your homestay parent if you want to do so.
Always use a plastic sheet/mat
when applying nail-polish, etc.

Meal Time
DO

Try a small amount of everything your host family makes.
Say ¡°please¡± and ¡°thank you¡±.
Wait to have food passed to you or say, ¡®please pass the..¡¦¡¯
If you are still hungry, please tell your host.
Clear your dishes from the table and take to the kitchen.
Offer to help wash/dry the dishes. Ask your host how to do this.Tell your host where you will be
if you won¡¯t be home for dinner.
Ask your host before inviting your friends home.

Make noises when eating or drinking.
Put your knife in your mouth.
Talk with your mouth full
